"Kim Robertson's crystalline harp sounds like a mountain brook coursing through a cathedral; the most peaceful and perhaps the most beautiful of this year's albums in loveley elegiac arrangements." - Bob Marello, Facts on Wax.

"Celtic Christmas by Kim Robertson will surely add a touch of grace to your Christmas celebration." - Paul Simon, Body Mind and Spirit

I have played Celtic Christmas before the liturgies at Christmas time in church for a number of years. Comments have been favorable and a number of people have bought the CD and say it is their favorite Christmas album.

    Best ever Christmas music

This is absolutely the best Christmas music we have in our extensive collection. We have worn out the tapes, need to buy the CD, and never tire of it. It is great to listen to the soft sounds of harp playing some of the best Christmas melodies ever written, while decorating the tree or wrapping gifts. It makes me feel connected to my ancestors while I continue traditions that for me have never lost meaning. This and her sequel album are definitely high on my list of my favorite things about Christmas.

Talented harpist and creative arranger Kim Robertson has a way of making even the most familiar tunes artful, interesting and uniquely her own. Her simple but pleasant arrangements here are rich, warm and delicate, taking full advantage of her instrument and her abilities. The "Celtic" in this album's title reflects the fact that Robertson plays a Celtic harp rather than the source of the carols themselves. Her musical material is predominantly English or French and predominantly familiar to modern ears, though the lesser known selections from the Middle Ages and Renaissance are lovely additions. Unnamed flute and bell players contribute in the background of several of the pieces, but the harp remains the focus. Robertson's delicate and artful celebration of the holiday season continues on "Celtic Christmas II", where she is joined by cellist Virginia Kron. For other gentle holiday cheer featuring harp, try "A Winter's Night" by Ensemble Galilei or "Ancient Noels" by Ensemble Galilei and Maggie Sansone.

Twenty years ago,I happened to be in a gift shop on the Jersey shore. When I walked into the shop, I was surrounded by this beautiful harp music. Being a music teacher myself I quickly bought a copy of the tape. (CD's were not even available then) Two years ago in a local bookstore, I happened to come upon the C.D, and it is almost as worn out as the tape. Since that time I have been searching for anything else of Kim's, but to no avail, until someone suggested I try Invincible.

Kim Robertson has the talent and ability to take a simply lovely piece and make it multi-dimensional with patterns and shadings you never thought possible. The opening track reels you in, and you are held spellbound until the last note of the last track is played. This CD is a must-have!

Undeniable spiritual quality infuses this music. Angels seem to inhabit it, ministering to the listener. Mere stereo speakers suddenly receive the capability to exude warmth and love; harsh events occurring in the world are shut out by an overwhelming gentleness. Put this on the stereo at Christmastime and create a background of peace and joy. This is truly a gift to the entire world for Christmas.

If you're looking for Christmas songs that don't get on your nerves, then this CD might work for you. It's extremely mellow and great for background music around the fireplace, or you may want to fall asleep by it. It isn't what I had in mind when I ordered Celtic music (as I was expecting something a bit more lively), but it is Celtic, nonetheless. The arrangements are reverent and, at times, have a fantasia quality to them being that the predominant instrument is a harp.

AWSOME! I've first heard this harp music by Kim Robertson when I bought a tape over 15 years ago. I listened to it over and over while I was seriously ill in hosp and it was a life saver for my peace and tranquility. I still have the tape but have ordered the CD to play on my Bose which I play often especially during the Chirstmas season.

Kim Robertson Video Sunrises in Kauai.
Combining the authentic traditions of the Celtic Harp with a dynamic flair for world rhythms and on-the-edge improvisation, Kim Robertson has stretched the boundaries of the harp. This daring redefinition of harp music is at its most vibrant in her concert appearances. Remarking on her greatest love, live performance, she says, "That's where the magic is...between the audience and the performer...that's when I truly express myself. Without that experience, I don't think I could make meaningful recordings. Not only can I see how people are responding, but I take more chances playing live."

Kim Robertson's repertoire includes timeless Celtic melodies, classical, Renaissance and medieval works, and original compositions which, since the release of her 1991 album, Angels in Disguise, also feature her beautiful lyrics and vocals.

Born and raised in Wisconsin, Kim Robertson began studying piano at age eight, continuing on into college as a piano major. I was in Kim Robertson's senior year of high school that Kim first began to learn the pedal or orchestral harp. "I was never a very good pedal harp student since I was not interested in a symphonic career. I found it fascinating only as a sideline."

Kim Robertsons introduction to improvisation early on by a jazz pianist enlarged her musical vision, freeing her from the need for written music. This freedom influenced both her piano and classical harp training, building trust in her own creative instincts and allowing many future innovations in her style.

In the mid-70's, Kim Robertson discovered the Celtic harp. This quickly evolved into a profound love for the instrument and set her upon the original path of exploration for which she is renowned. In 1979, she moved to the California coast where she was approached by Invincible Music.

The first recording session turned into her debut recording Wind Shadows with producer Liv Singh Khalsa, a rich blend of old Irish melodies and original compositions whose success projected Kim Robertson onto the vanguard of the new acoustic scene.

Kim Robertson's love affair with Celtic music has blossomed into a highly visible performing, recording, and teaching career. Her work encompasses 18 recording projects including Tender Shepherd, Love Song to a Planet, and her 1993 appearance on the Sugo harp anthology Harvest Moon. Kim Robertson has published nine volumes of harp arrangements and two instructional videos and pursues an international itinerary of concerts, workshops, and retreats. Through the prism of the Celtic harp, one of the world's oldest and most loved instruments, Kim Robertson has found and focused her artistic vision to create an intimate and universal chamber music of the heart.
